Is dead after putting back my instrument cluster. The four prong connector which includes the oil pressure gauge wiring looks good too. All other functions on the cluster work fine including the illumination. Any suggestions? Wiring, fuses, sending unit?
Note: There is oil in the engine not to overlook the obvious!
I'm not an expert but I thought the sender provides resistance when it is working and that is what enables the gauge to work. When the sender is shot, the needle usually shoots to the top. If yours is not moving at all, it would seem that it's a connection/lack of voltage problem.
I had the temp gauge, fuel gauge, and oil pressure gauge crap out all at the same time on my wife's '89 a month ago. It was a fuse.
I believe you are correct. Must be something electrical I messed up when reinstalling my cluster. I looked at the fuse box and rotated each fuse. Everything looked OK. If I shorted something I cannot find it.
I pulled off the oil sensor connector at the oil pan and the windshield washer light came on. Jumping the sensor directly to the 4 pin cluster made other warning lights come on but the oil gauge was still dead. Maybe the gauge is just "DEAD!". I am not aware of a separate fuse just for the oil gauge. All other gauges and lights work OK!
yes. One fuse handled all three gauges. I wish I could tell you which one it was but it was easy enough to see that it was blown. Another common problem is that the tapered ends on the fuses get oxidized. Just spinning the fuse in its holder with clean them off and this might fix your problem as well. Failing this, I would re-check all the connections you disturbed.
