300D engine vibration under load

I have just got myself a good condition 300D W124 non turbo and find it very irritating to drive as the engine exhibits a strong vibration around 1500 - 1600 rpm when under load . Is this 'normal' for this engine? My OM617 's don't show this behavior.

howzit china!!!!
OM 617s arent in W124s.

only 601, 602, 603, 604, 605, 606. 1, 2, 3 were early single cam diesels that came after 616 and 617. 4, 5, 6 were twin cam multi valve engines IIRC.

as for the question at hand, try the motor mounts. including the gearbox mount.

go boks.

edit. just realised you didnt imply anywhere that you had 617

I was referring to the OM 617's in my W460.332 and W123.130's - I have 3 OM617 engines and one OM603 in the W124.

It's not normal for the engine. Do you get the same vibration when revving the engine in neutral? If not, the problem is more likely stemming from improper alignment or wheel balance, or possibly driveshaft vibration. If it does, it could be as simple as motor mounts. PM me if you like.

Does your 124 have a propshaft vibration damper just behind the front flexable coupler. My mechanic tells me I should have one even though the EPC says its not required.
