As most of you know, the toe is adjusted in the 5-link rear suspension by the arm with the tie-rod. It goes to an eccentric bolt in the subframe where the mounting ears are slotted.
Here's my question: I have a 86 5-speed 300E, an 88 auto 300E & a 95 E320. The 86 subframe is running an additional eccentric bolt set-up on another arm that the 88 & 95 subframes don't. They have a conventional bolt & hole set-up at that location. It looks like a factory provision & not somebody's modification. I'm wondering if it is a first year of production thing that was phased out or what?
The location in question is the pair of subframe ears directly opposite the ones for the tie-rod equipped arm. In other words, one pair is on top of the frame & one is below. Does anyone know the story on this?
