Hi all, I have a 1993 400E and the a/c has been going on and off intermittently. And anytime i put it on high, it would start blowing warm. Always a hissing sound coming from the dashboard..
My local auto zone told me the r134 a was probably low, and to put a can in.
I did so, and the car drove me to my destination with the a/c blowing freezing cold on high.
Yay right ?
Wrong...
When I went to leave again, the a/c compressor wont even engage now... I have restarted the cart 10 times to no avail, the compressor just sits there like a piece of dead meat..
I looked in the fuse box by the driver side under the hood, and I dont even see a fuse for the compressor ..
Is there one ?
What other suggestions do you guys have besides bringing it to the dealer ?
Money is very tight atm, and I live in Florida so the heat is almost unbearable...
Chek the fuse in the fuse box on the driver side.Make sure it make good contact. Also 94 E420 have some blower fuse on the same sidethat you can reset by just pressing it.It is lokated wright over the driver side fender. If you do not have a refregerant leak it is important that the refregerant is not too mach either.I do not know if I am right but that is what I know. Good luck.

When I open that main fuse box by the driver side door (under the hood) I s ee nothing listed for air compressor.
Closest thing is blower motor, but that also controls a ton of other stuff, andf the blower motor seems to be blowing fine...
Am I missing something ?

Car a/c works PERFECT one day, and NOTHING the next....
Ive read reports about sensors for belt speed, and possible a/c clutch engaging problems...
But it wasnt for the w124 class.
Are these things that can happen in this car also ??
I just came from this situation, compressor would intermittently come-on. Culprit was the sensor behind the compressor. I got the part from a donor compressor. The mechanic did the work, he didn't pulldown the compressor anymore. Sorry no idea on the part number.
Initially I was suspecting it was the Klima Relay, replaced it with my spare but still no good. Then I thought it was evaporator sensor, but when I checked the records, we just replaced it early this year.
By the way, Nippondenso-15C is the brand & model of my compressor.

Hope this helps.
ok, it seems as if this is probably the issue..
I just called my local MB dealer, and they confirmed it as the "speed sensor". This is causing the a/c clutch to disengage if the engine speed is "too high"
Not sure what that means...or is this sensor indicating another problem?
Or is it safe to assume the part is just "bad" and I need a new sensor?
If thats the case, MB quoted me a price of 200$ for the part, and id like to know if I can find it elsewhere for a little cheaper.
Anyone have any ideas as to where I could order one ?
Doing a google search was completely unfruitful, as all I was able to find was ABS speed sensors.
