Still no REVERSE!!!

Very green, newbie, sealpup here! Just rebuilt my tranny in my 90 300E, 164,XXX clicks which had no reverse, but could power brake thru 2 gears with no problem and no foward slipping. I put new friction plates (B-3 almost to metal ,K-1,&K-2) seals and filter, DID NOT touch valve body. Set her down last night to test drive, had full reverse out of the shed, pulled up and back a few times and got worse as she warmed up. Runs strong in foward but a little reverse on flat ground. Any help greatly appreciated, the tech fellas on this site know their stuff!! Please help I'm begging!!

Thanks in advance,
Brad

Not shifting, or taking a long time to do so, into reverse is usually the first sign of a dying transmission. If you have $1500, consider getting a rebuilt transmission. I've had good luck with Adsit.

I was hoping you were going to tell me I over looked something?! I want to learn as much about this car as possible, I like to DIY! Thanks for the heads up on getting a rebuild, but as I stated earlier I think I did most of the rebuild putting in new plates and seals I'm just wondering if there is something I over looked.

Did you replace the B3 piston seal while you had it out and apart? B3 controls reverse.

If you could? Enlighten me on where the B-3 piston seals are. Remeber I'm a very green newbie!! Are they the teflon seals that are on the shaft that attaches to the front pump that goes over the input shaft and the K-1 disks are in?

Yes they are the up front teflon seals. the B3 piston is pretty much the first thing you come to when dissassembling.

If you could only see the dissappointed look on my face right now. No, the two seals did not get replaced! So.... you think this could be a problem? Any other suprises, like more seals, reaction valve and modulator? I've just lowered my self to "seedling green newbie" I'm going to pull her back into the shed tonight, and drop the tranny again!!

Thanks,
Brad

Yes it could be your problem. The B3 seals seem to be the major issue when it comes to loss of reverse on these cars. The B3 piston works like a brake to lock up portions of the transmission so the reversing gear can operate. There is a friction material on one end that you might want to check as well.

I pulled the tranny from the car, I really took my time dismantaling and reinstalling new components, replaced every seal, brake bands, and all friction plates. Again did not touch valve body. Put back into car and samething, NO REVERSE!!! Runs great forward but little reverse.
