I have a 260 E 88/89 model year , which when warm is very difcult to start, from cold there are no problems and it starts fine.
When the engine runs it idles ok and the power and general runing are ok . But when the engine is warm and you then swtich off the engine for a short while ( no set time ) when you come to restart then the engine is very reclutant to fire up, when it does it seems to be over fueling.
does anyone have any advice?.
Could you provide me with coolant temp sensor and airtemp sensor readings resitantance / ohms, also could you please inform me when the CO adjusting screw is fot the 260 engine as I have a chance to check and adjust the CO content .
Check for fuel leaks, if there is a fuel leak, you should smell gas whan the hood is opened and the car is running. If the fuel distributor is not mantaining the pressure after shutdown, you will get such problems. If you have a fuel pressure gauge, check fuel pressure, run engine briefly and then stop the engine. The pressure after about 30 mins should still be 2.5 bars.
The other possibility is a faulty coolant temp sensor (the last one on the engine, closest to the windshield). The resistance across the terminals should be between 2.5 and 3.5K when cold and should drop to between 250 and 350 ohms when the engine temp is 80 degC. The numbers might not be exactly the same but the resistance should drop by a factor of 8 to 10 as the engine wrams up from 20 degC to 80 degC.
