hello people
i live in Saudi Arabia.. and it is so hot in here in the summer...
temperature in months April through August ranges from 35 C' (95 F) to 45 C' (113 F).. this summer it reached 53 C' (127 F)... no kiddin'
anyway
My car is a 1991 W124 230E.. and i noticed these things happened to it in this flaming summer:
1- the air conditioning is so ineffective, and when i compare it to the AC of my other
car (Toyota Camry 1999) i see my MB AC as so premitive it doesnt cool anything...
2- the temperature of the engine is always high and never below 80, and with the AC on its around 90!!!!
so people, do u think i have a problem with my car or is this normal ? i mean they say W124 isnt designed to function in such hot enviroments??
I have had my 95 E320 for almost 2 years here is the Phoenix area. My car normally runs in the 100 to 110 C range during the summer months. The temperature ranges 105 F to 118 F for 4 months out of the year. If your AC is not cooling the car adequately I would suggest tinting the windows as dark as it is legal. I would also check the fuse IN the auxillary fan relay. If this fuse is blown it will affect the AC compressor cycle making it in effective. The aux fans are the fans in front of the radiator which should run above 100C. This fuse blowing is pretty common. The relay is located behind the fuse box. It is a 30 amp fuse.

Yeah Saudi heat is something else. My 98 Toyota Camry, did a fantastic job there !! Whereabouts are you ?
We've had temps in the upper 90s in DC for weeks. Add 75%+ relative humidity to your heat, my Saudi friend, and then come talk to me... We have a funny little calculation in the states called the "heat index", or more correctly the "misery index" that puts us well into the triple digits most of August. Lovely. But I digress.
My 124 touches 90 degrees operating temp most of the hot season, with or without the a/c running. My a/c's ok, but then again I have the wagon with lots more cubic feet to cool, and lots more glass. I think a sedan with a well maintained climate control system should keep you nice and cool, even in your 127 degree heat. Others with sedans will need to weigh in on this one.
P.S. I'll trade weather with you until about September 15th, ok?

one more thing: is it because my benz is a bit old, its AC technology cant compete with the newer Toyota 1999?
and do u think running my benz with this so high engin temp can cause problems to the engin?
Asslamo Alykoum Faisal,
dont worry about this temperature. i have a 190E and last week it was too hot here in NJ about 90C and my car runs within 80-90.
so o think thats normal due to the high compression engine of our car. just my 2 cents.
BTW: welcome to the forum

heheeh 90C - almost hell
There is some chapter in mercedes manual book that says : in mountain driving temperature can rise up to 120 C and its normal temperature of engine work.
So if you have 90 100 or 105 C then just dont think about it, its OK.
