300 te self leveling rear suspension air cell accumulators
Hi- thank you to those who helped with info about fixing the harsh rear suspension in my 1990 300te wagon with the hydropneumatic rear suspension "air cell accumulators"- when I followed the instructions posted which begin by going into the trunk area and lifting up the forwardmost trunk floor panel to expose that area, I can clearly see what appears to be the 2 air cell accumulators (black spherical things a few inches in diameter each) nestled in 2 depressions. There are no hydraulic connections, lines, or anything else visible or accessible from the top. The postings on this site from other members discussed stuff like disconnecting hydraulic fittings, lines, chiseling off nuts, replacing a bunch of hex nuts, copper washers, etc. I'm wondering now if there were different versions of this suspension. I have also owned a Citroen DS for several years, which also has hydropneumatic suspension, and replacing the 5 spheres on that car (one at each corner for suspension, and one central or main accumulator) is simply a matter of unscrewing each of the spheres like a light bulb and screwing a new one back on with a new rubber 'o'ring under the sphere base. The only other step on the Citroen is to first unscrew a 'bleed screw' to release pressure from the system to allow the spheres to come off easier, even though they only need to be put back on "hand tight"- anyone have any experience with this setup? also, in the trunk on the left inside the spare tire well there is what appears to be an adjustment device for the self levelong device controlled by a rotary knob
