guys i have a 124 coupe which has all the usual extras and i love it.i have it a few years now but the engine is starting to get a bit rattly.i think 1 of the tappets is sticking causing the rattling sound.any comments or suggestions?
At 180,000 miles it may be time...for a timing chain
If it makes a rattling sound on startup then quiets down, I would replace the timing chain before it lets go, and do the tensioners and guide rails also, especially at the mileage your car has.
Probably even more emphasis on that suggestion if you hear the sound all the time, you REALLY don't want to have the timing chain slip or snap, belive me, the consequences are catastrophic if that happens...
