my 95 diesel has produced over 40 mpg a couple times in highway driving if the conditions are just right (slightly warmer outdoor temperature, no ac, no hills, lower speeds such as 55-65 mph). Normally I'll be able to get 27-30 mpg city, 30-35 mpg highway at around 75-80 mph on interstates

I live in Houston, but work in a small town about 65 miles away. Once I'm in the small town, I run errands about twice a day, but otherwise I'm cruising at 85 mph with the cruise and AC on. Combined mpg is usually 29 mpg. I would assume that if I ran a whole highway tank (700+ miles), I'd see 34-35 mpg at 75 mph and 31-32 mpg at 85+.
In other words, I drive my E300 fast at highway speeds, do about 10-15% city driving, and still never get worse than 29 mpg.

POS...
you have the coolest cars...i may be getting a 95 diesel with 124k on it :-)...freshly changed evaporator, everything else looks pretty good. I think it needs motor mounts because at idle its not as smooth as it should be. Besides that its awsome...
What rims are those on your 95? and I noticed you had it for sale the other day? what was that all about?
Thanks, I just posted on your other thread that you ought to buy that w124 you're looking at. It sounds like a good one, and the price is excellent.
The wheels on my '95 are 16" Ronal R-9s painted body color - it's an 80s thing that still looks good today. Here's a better shot:
I got a bug to sell the '95 last week and upgrade to a w210, so I put the '95 for sale. But then I started at looking at the w210s closer and realized that I'd have to come up with $6-7k for the upgrade. I'm not sure the w210 is worth the price increase. Every two years or so, I upgrade my vehicles, so I thought I'd upgrade either the 1995 or my 2002 Z71 Suburban (kid hauler that I barely drive). But the more I think about it, the more I think I might upgrade the Suburban for now and keep the 1995. That 1995 drives wonderful and gets incredible mileage for the speeds I drive - hard to beat that.
