Hi all,

Just finished changing my seats out in my '89 300e. The donor seats were from a '95 e320 and they have the heated seat option. The rear seat and passenger seat were a direct swap. The drivers seat was a different story. I had to swap out the main board that the wire harness from the car plugs into. Has anybody successfully added heated seats to a w124 using the stock parts? Does anyone have a list of the parts needed?

Sam

donor car had 86k on the clock. There is a different plug for the seat heaters on the bottom of the seat. My harness had more pins than the 95's seat. The 89 seats had the memory function for the drivers side didnt check to see if the 95 did as well but i'm pretty sure it was a standard feature.

1995 did not have memory driver's seat as standard - it was an option with 2 memory features. that could be the reason why your 89 harness has more pins.

as my previous post described the seats that I upgraded to are heated and would now like to go ahead and use this feature. Does anyone have a parts list needed...harnesses, relays, switches and their associated part numbers? Those of you who have completed this task please chime in...your input will be appreciated.

Been there, done that. I put E500 seats in my 1987 300D and made the seat heaters functional. You'll need the two wire harnesses, relay, both switches, and the console wood. And, then you'll need to rip out the whole interior to install that stuff (seriously). Photos of my seat install are here:

There's a different thread here where I posted more info:

Here's some shots of my car:

Good catch. ;)

Yes, this is something I added, but it has nothing to do with the HVAC system. The recirc switch just happened to have the proper electrical contacts, and LED, that I needed. The recirc switch by the window controls is for my Valentine-1. The switch triggers a latching relay, so when it turns on, the relay latches on, triggers the LED, and turns on the V-1. I can either turn it off with the switch, or when I shut the engine off, this also turns it off.

The reason for all this is so that the V-1 automatically shuts off when I turn the car off. I was sick of getting in the car, turning the key on, and listening to the screeching startup beeps from the V-1 since I always forgot to turn it off! And there's no way to disable the startup self-test on the V-1.

BTW - the original seats from my 1987 (and door panels, etc) are all for sale. I just haven't had time to post them in the classifieds yet.

What are the other switches, besides the recirculate/ V1 switch, that are near your window switches. You seem to have more than most.
At the moment, the extras are just filling the additional blank spaces in the "limo" console wood. Only two are non-functional. Below the recirc/V1 switch is a switch for the stereo system, which allows turning it on without the key (and also functions as a valet switch, the stereo system won't operate unless you flip this switch, lol). The extra rear window "kiddie" switch is for the illumination on the AutoMeter gauges. I leave it off most of the time but it's nice to turn it on at night when needed.

Someday I may get the central lock switch functioning (lock / unlock all doors). Dunno what I'd do with the last switch though, at least on this car (there are a few things I'd do on my gassers with it).

any seats from a 6 cyl W124 should bolt up, but they made changes in the motors and wiring on newer years (93+?)... you can however swap the seat cushions from any w124 (including v8) to your seat base to use your existing motors + harness. there's early leather, later leather, mbtext, and the relatively rare sportline recaro seats. at least a half dozen different interior colors.

interior stuff is pretty much interchangable from any w124, but 93+(I think) have a passenger airbag and no glovebox, so the dash and center console is different. and above mentioned changes to electric seat controls and harnesses.

oh, coupes (300CE) have different seats, also wagon rear seats are different than sedan rear seats.
