Replacing steering tie rods ?

I normally just bang them out with a pickle fork on American cars, but a guy posted a $397 tool made to change the $30 tie rod end. Maybe a slide hammer / air hammer ? two arm gear puller as a pressing tool ?

Any tips

Its the first change in 100K miles ,

Maybe 5 years ago I bought a sweet little tie rod end separator from Eastwood Company. It was made by Old Forge Tools and was basically a small, 2-jaw screw-type puller. Cost about $65 and I've used the hell out of it. The design allows you to "split" the tapered stud connection without damaging the balloon seal. Eastwood doesn't list it anymore and I can't find it online either. Bummer, becasue it really is a handy little tool. It was/is p/n 2544.

Searching further, I found this:

OTC 7503 - Outer Tie Rod Remover - S&Js Tools

Maybe OTC bought the rights to manufacture the tool because this looks just like the one I have.
