my friend just had his car dynoed and got around 150 hp and 145FT LBS torque, in his 2.5L V6, its a contour, but it keeps up with my moms E320 so im just curious what our cars do at the rear wheels. Another question i have is if the e320 (1995) has variable timing or somthing because of the noticable power boost i get aournd 4500RPM, it feels almost like a turbo charging kiking in or somthing, anyone know what that is, and can explain it to me, because i love that little boost feeling it gets under hard acceleration.. also has anyone heard of these inline 6cyl engines getting turbo chargers on them?.. im just looking for the fun of it.. im stuck in the house bored haha

E320 motors should have approx. 220 hp. I haven't a clue what that equates to at the rear wheels. Yes, the motors do have variable valve timing. 3rd. Yes, there are a few kits out there to install turbo on our cars. Expect to toss about 8 grand down to gain about 100 hp. Do a search on turbo's in this forum and you will find many strings about this.
I believe that kick comes when the motor revolutions approach maximum torque. On a picture of a torque curve, it's where it keeps steep. Just guessing but with our motors it's around 3500 rpm?

Good Luck,

Deduct 14%-16% from the published horsepower and you'll approximate the rear wheel horsepower. The deduction will account for drive train loss.
As stated above I think the older benz trannies are at about 16% so around 185-190 RWHP. Also take into account that the Contour is frontwheel drive so there is less driveline loss to deal with. Also, final drive issues come into play as well. If both cars are un"limited", I would think the E320 would walk away, going away but that would be at the top end of the run.
