Can any of the members here recommend a shop that will perform this service in the Redwood City/Peninsula area in Nor Cal? I am planning on purchasing a '94 300TE and would like to get it inspected for peace of mind. Thanks in advance.

I have heard good things about R.L. Spencer up in Burlingame, (up from the train Station, near California St.) I believe he's mainly a Mercedes restorer, and knows the fintails and heckflosses especially well, but may be good with the 123/124/126 series also. Might be worth a try. (recommended by Veloce300TDT, Nate, who posts in the 123 forum here, and who I know personally, and trust)
There are a several other Mercedes repair shops up around the Burlingame auto row area, (Schmid's, Auto haus, Four Car garage and others, but I can't vouch personally for any of them - I used to live in SF)
Nate and I have also used Sal's Autohaus (up in San Francisco, go up hwy 280 to San Jose Ave exit, 2942 San Jose Ave.) Phone: (415) 334-6221. Not a "white glove" type of shop, but good. I was only there once, but they are familiar and competent with cars of your era I'd wager. Price was in line or below for SF and reasonable ($67 for a L/O/F, they called it the "C" service) a few years back.
Might be worth looking at the "Good shops - California" section here:
Good luck, the E320 W124 wagons are really worth chasing down if you can get a nice one. they were one of the best modern MB efforts.
And btw, welcome. The W124 section hereinbelow, is for tech help a good place for advice on this model. (Mercedesshop forum is another great place to sign up). the tech help section there is LOADED with Mercedes mechanics and shop owners and DIYers.

Here, here on the W124 wagon. Started a sales job in January and am putting mega miles on mine. Can't imagine a better car for someone in my line of work...

I had my car inspected at German Motors at the corner of Holly Street and El Camino Real in San Carlos, CA. They are one block from the Caltrain station. It cost me $150, but was worth the money.
German Motor Works
430 El Camino Real
San Carlos, CA 94070

Hands down best place to go - Stuttgart Motors, close to the the Woodside Rd. and El Camino overpass (right across from Chevron gas station) Redwood City is my hometown! Hence my screen name. good luck.
Thank you all. I will look into each of the shop mentioned. I'm getting kinda "nervous" buying this car. I spoke to Mark at Autohaus Zdenek in San Carlos and basically said that if the car has not had it's tranny rebuilt, the wire harness replaced, and the valves adjusted he would NOT recommend to buy the car. Only the tranny rebuild has been performed and the car has 151k miles.
Any thoughts or tips on this matter? Thanks in advance fellas.
