Hello, My mother has a 1990 300E with 115k, she drives this car daily to/from, its about 84miles a day. She bought this car in 1999 at a preowned Lexus dealer for $22K and it had only 27K on the odo. The car still drives like new, the body and the interior is flawless! Though at the end of 06 she notice the car was starting to burn some oil, until now this month the car burned 3 qts of oil, and the 1# cylinder was misfiring. My mother took very well of the car, always bring the car to the dealer for usual changing fluids and filters. Since the misfiring my mother let the car sit for the week until she has time to bring it down to the dealer. I drove her car to the dealer and didn't experience any misfiring, it was very unusual. Two days later the dealer call my mother stating that her car was burning a lot of oil, and they have to take the engine apart to fix the problem, just that will cost $4k and thats not all there is more to be fix on the cars engine. Right now the dealer hasn't start breaking down the engine until the decision has been, and I'm wondering if its worth it?

I'd get another estimate. Search on this forum, and I think you'll find threads about a common issue to do with valve seals . . . I think a good independent mechanic could bang out that job for way less than $4k.
Miles are right for a cylinder head overhaul. New guides, valves ground, seals, etc. Have an indie do it for a lot less than $4k.
Regarding "is it worth it" well the answer lies in whether your mom intends to keep using the car. If so it's worth it. What can she get for $4k? If she's going to sell the car asap then I'd sell it as is.
I had the dealer replace my head gasket, valve seals, gaskets, etc. for about $2,300. Find another estimate. Adding oil is much cheaper than fixing it.
