I am considering buying a 1994 MERCEDES-BENZ E320 from a friend. The car is in very good condition, used as a family car with low mileage (150,000 km).
It does have minimal rust on the body (mostly around fender/tire) and the mechanic recommends doing another paint job..
Wondering if I should consider buying it due to the rust and if there will be any major maintenance problems to consider…Also, what would be a good price?
couple things... where are you located and has the wirning harness been replaced? That right there is around $1,000 USD

rust and paintjob are expensive too. '94 E320s are not too rare, so i would hold out for a non-rusty one.
yes, but if he is picking up the car from a friend I'm sure he will give him a good deal, and at 150 k's that car is on it's way to the harness issue any day now along with many other electircal problems, unless everything was maintained on time by the previous owners then you just may pick up your self a good deal.
btw:I'm about an hour away from you, welcome to benzworld.

I just had a nice looking 94 up on the lift before offering. Good thing too as it was cosmetically perfect (and drove ok). What we found it needs or will soon:
motor mounts
axel mounts
right side tie rod
drive train flex discs
We stopped looking after that. goes to show you that even the most "perfectly maintained" E320 is going to have expensive wear issues after 12-13 years.
Caveat emptor!
