calling all 230CE owners...

Hey guys,

I recently (yesterday ) bought a 1991 230CE with automatic transmission...

Can you tell me what RPM does your engine run at 75mph? mine is between 3500 and 4000... aint this a little too high?

Thanks in advance

Miguel

doesn't sound too high, my 300TE is about 3200rmp's at 75-80mph... you have a smaller motor so that sounds fine. Benz motors are made to wind up so don't worry about it, just make sure you always have clean oil in the motor, and on the 2.3 you want to take the valve cover off and inspect the pipe that drips oil onto your cam... Take the pipe out and clean it out with brake cleaner and compressed air to make sure all the little holes are clean so oil can get through... this is a common problem when they get plugged up on the 2.3's and the single cam v8's from the 80's!

thank you for your help.

I was worried because my W124 200TD doesnt seem like its running that high rpms at 75 mph!... I dont have a tach though :P ehehe.

I'm really happy with the auto tranny, first car I have with one and I admit I am impressed!! so smooth, "intelligent"... lets see how the mileage goes though! ahaha.

MiguelXJ,

The owners manual states that you should NOT switch into N from D when you are driving unless you are in danger of skidding when presumably you would be looking to reduce your speed!
