Hlo Hlo new- 500E('92 w124 chassis) owner here !! one of those people who in the excitement and emotion of owning a rare 500e gets burned!! expected some mechanical repairs but this one is sooo far screwed that the govt here thought i was an idiot to actually bring the car to get it registered (without inside contacts i mean) OH and i live in Dubai,United Arab Emirates. Now the quote i have for the car is mainly for chassis damage which i guess theres nothing that can really be done and the underbody is so leaked of oil that it looks an uncleaned frying pan major parts that i decided to get done now are
steering pump assembly and
steering gearbox kit
Mass air flow sensor
and the smaller stuff like the hoses air filter spark plugs.. etc these basics he said makes it safe for the car and can get me through the govt registration vehicle testing
now i need help on how muc htese parts would actually cost and whether i should go for new MB Parts or the used ones will be good enough ...the guy at the workshop says its fine to go for used parts ...it makes no difference to him in the mechanical working, btw cuz whichever i go for ill be buying the parts. Now im jus a UG student and cant really afford to pour in cash but i dont want nething to get busted again in a few months sooo please help tell me what should i do???
Seems to me that the combo of being an UG student and owning a 500E are incompatible. Even a neglected M103 or M104 car will cost a fortune to resurrect and you're tackling the King of cost. Hmmm.
I use "experienced" parts all the time. I buy a parts car of the same vintage and usewhatever has life left in it. Modules, relays, hoses, belts, brake pads, tires, you name it. You do have to weigh the cost of removing/installing a part of unknown condition before proceeding. Like a rear wheel bearing. It's a lot of work to take two cars apart to swap a part that may be near the end of its life anyway if a brand new part isn't too expensive.
I'd think that availability of used 500E parts would be a big issue. Is the PS pump from an S-Klasse the same?

i know but its already done and i cant sell it now if i do il lose a good amount , now im jus going to have to move forward with this,i dont think an s-class pump wud work size variations i guess,so ur telling me if i go for used parts they will be worth it till they run out,but will this create problems for the other running parts??
