How difficult is to remove/replace the tranny?

Hi folks,
I would like to know how difficult is to remove/replace the transmission in a '95 E320. I am a DIY with medium skill level. This would be done by myself and in my driveway (have jackstands and a 4 ton hydraulic jack).
I'm considering buying a rebuilt tranny and replacing it myself since most places will not do the job unless they provide the tranny.
My tranny is running fine but due to it's high mileage I have to start thinking in advance (I forsee a tranny swap within the next 30-40K miles).
Thanks,

Sergio

I am thinking about the same thing , It seems pretty straight forward . The kicker is getting or making a transmission lift / jack ,to hold the 100 -150 lb box in position . I think you could rent one or use a low level motorcycle lift , shorten the pump handle / vertical frame ,,, $ 50 -60 for a chinese one.

Working on rough non level surfaces , can make a simple 10x more difficult.

While your in there, get the rear crank seal , maybe Eng. mount. I don't know how much exhaust system needs to come out , but having a torch - penetrating oil and a sawzall would be a plus .

If you have the transmission , even a small independent Benz garage could do it quickly. They will make their money on labor.

Thanks Uboater.
I think I will let the pros handle this one. When the time comes, I will call a couple of places and flat out tell them "I already bought the tranny, can you replace it" because if they know I haven't purchased it yet, they are going to try to talk me into having them supply it.
