... when the head unit is on? Seems a waste for it to go up and down, up and down, up and down, all the time, especially when you're listening to CD's or cassettes. My 201 has a switch on the dash to keep it down. But the 124 doesn't?

I guess you could pull the power lead on a 124 antenna motor and just leave it up. I get annoyed when the antenna starts up ,when I roll the key on to raise the windows . I know you can turn off the radio , but that's just more work for a small job.
So what year was *that* handy little antenna switch deleted? My 88s have it, including the wagon. Since most of my listening is to CDs I'm glad to give the antenna a rest. I find that even the satellite radio in the sedan works just fine with the antenna retracted all the way.
mine stays down when i play a cd and goes up when i switch to radio...probably because i have an aftermarket system.. sony cdx-m850, fs if anyones interested
if i can recall i think my becker audio deck did the same..

I use the key in the door to roll up my windows when thats all I need to do... no need to get in the car.
Just hold the key in the lock pos and the windows and roof close... hold in unlock and the windows roll down.

i ran a new aftermaket one that sits on the rear dash, and then i shaved the stock one off. it looks alot cleaner now with same clarity and no more up and down or horrible ice buildup in the winter.
I put a new head unit in my '95 E320 recently. I connected the power antenna lead in the car's wiring harness to the appropriate wire on the head unit, and I thought everything was fine. When the radio was on, the antenna went up. When I put a CD in, the antenna went down. That was just what I wanted.
Then, I discovered that the door speakers weren't working when I played a CD. I pulled the unit back out and connected the power car's power antenna lead to the subwoofer power from the head unit and bingo, the door speakers work when playing a CD, but the antenna also stays up.
Conclusion: the powered door speakers and antenna run off of the same lead. You can't have one without the other. Bummer.
