I'm a 50 yr old Sales Manager in IT. Good income but always watching the bottom line. My first car in Univ was an MGB, I had 2, then went to a 2002 - great car-on to a 530 i, then tried a Jeep Cherokee, and gave it to my wife. Then the family started and I started my Saab saga. Bought 2 x 900 Convertibles, great cars no complaints but then got the itch. My folks have always had classy cars P1800 Volvo, 911S, BMW 325 Convert, Audi All road, TT, and of course a 300 and 400E. I've always felt special when I look down the hood and see the Tri-star. Just can't get rid of the smile!

It's funny to see all those kids going out buying brand new Civics or VW's and they never going to be driving a "Mercedes Benz" and yet you paid way less then what they paid for their brand new ones. Play your cards right you'll have all the girls wanting a ride lol

1988 Mercedes Benz 300E (SOLD)
51 years old, engineering degree (never used it), business owner, make tons of money, between ex-wives at the moment, have 9 Mercedes and love my 300E. I believe Mercedes peaked somewhere between the 123 chassis and the 124.
Gas engineer.
Not rich but comfortable.
Have four benz's three are 124 series have owned three other 124 series all have been fantastic.
The woman likes to drive them.
They don't break very easy so she does'nt moan at me.
How much is that worth ????
People ask why we don't buy newer cars but they don't yank my chain with there over complex design and problems that go with it.
Regards Alfub
I am 30 and work for a major internet company in the small business department... I owned a '77 240D when I was 16 when that was wrecked I moved on to Honda's... now I am back in the game with my 300CE and am loving it!!!
I love that people think I am loaded because I drive it... which I am comfortable, but far from loaded.
I would like to get a 400E as well so I can have the V8 and the 4-doors.

I am a college student. The Benz is my moms car. I try to talk her into letting me drive it when ever I can. Its good and dependable and still looks good for an 87. With 218k mi. Still runs great. Its really a great car.
I'm 52, bout my first benz at 30, brand new Euro spec 1984 300D from the MB dealer in Freiburg. This was a "grey market" car, non-turbo 4speed clutch. I brought it back to the US, did the US spec conversion, and for $13,000 I had a $30,000 car. Drove that diesel for 225,000 miles, only put in 1 clutch, never touched the engine.
I have put over 200,000 miles each on 2 different W124 300E's. Have never touched the engine or tranny on either. Just routine maintenance items. Why do I like them? They are just the most sensible, comfortable road car ever made. The seats in my newer '98 E320 don't even compare. When I take a long trip, I still prefer my old W124. My kids have all been spoiled, driving nothing but hand me down benzes to high school. All their friends want to ride in them.

I have noticed that there are more engineer's than other professions posting in this thread. That makes me feel very good about my recent purchase.
I am 35 years old and a full-time student. I have been in IT since 1993 (network engineer, project manger, sys admin, etc.) and have been fairly well off financially. At least until I realized that without a formal education my career would top-out prematurely. So I cashed out all my investments, sold my house, and moved my family to a very cheap part of the country to finish school as quickly as possible. That was 3 years ago and I am about to finish my MBA.
The car.... Well I have 2 kids and a Toyota Avalon and a Saturn. The Saturn rarely gets driven because I can't fit both of the child seats in it at the same time. I needed a bigger car. A friend of my father was complaining about getting screwed by the car dealership on the trade-in value of his MB. He hadn't yet traded it in, but was going to. I offered to give him 10% over the dealership offer. So I got a 1993 300TE for nearly nothing. They really were giving him a raw deal.
The result.... I am a convert. This is the best quality, most comfortable, and most practical car I have ever driven. The best part; the previous owner is perhaps the most anal person I have ever known (orthopedic surgeon) and this car has been lovingly cared for, with details on every single thing that has ever been done to it.
