I think the W124 is Mercedes' 100 anniversary model (1886-1986). I've had this car almost six years. It has 130k miles on it. I've spent quite a bit (without complaint) keeping it in good shape and I marvel at discovering some sort of ingenious design aspect every other week. The most incredible experience I've had with this car is when I replaced the steering suspension. A totally different and new car! Try it. You'll like it, if you need it. Other notes: CD 3.0; This car can be lifted on a rotary device to twenty feet, flipped upside down and dropped on its roof without the roof collapsing. Rawkin'!

I am 18 now, and was 16 when I got my 300E. We bought it for 1500 from a family friend after it had been sitting under a tree. Been in love with them ever since. Even drivng a car as old as me, I still got looks and was called "rich kid" lol. However, nothing makes a statement better or matches the styling of driving a W124. With my friends driving honda's and other "imports" I just cruise along with that star on my hood knowing I am in a hot car. Hey, 2005x its good to see some east tennessee people on the board.
Another plus I have had countless offers for double what the car was worth when I owned.
Sadly it ended up like this:
However, now I drive a 92 190E, but now on the search for a 300CE
I am 17 and I love the oldschool look of the W124's. If I could, I would keep mine until I died, but unfortunately I have to sell it when I get ready to buy my E36. I have had mine for close to two years, and the only thing I complain about is the slow acceleration, but I get over that as soon as it hiots third.
41 Yr old Recruiter, and have owned my 300e since March. I was specifically looking to not have a car payment (Just finished two leases in last year). I was looking for something that I knew had strong build quality (likely German) and was rear wheel drive. It was between this and a BMW E34, but could find the BMW in as near as good condition as my 300e. The high mileage (257,000 kms now) doesn't bother me, as I know the dealership that serviced the car for the last 10 years and the work that has been done. Other factors were I love the clean lines, timeless interior, smooth 6, solid feel, steering feel and the look of this one with the body kit and now wheels.
I work as an executive - Finance in Dubai , I owned my 300E 1992 for almost two years and love it, I think because I can still challenge the new big cars that's compensate my inability to buy a much more expansive car plus the other reason must be that I used the Car for daily commuting between two cities which if new it will depreciate the value but since its cheaply priced and cheap to maintain and great to drive at high speed daily is the few reason that makes me proud of it.
1993 300E. 26 yo law student, BA and MA in philosophy. worked in various industries for a while before going back to law school, now work for attorney general. love the classic design of the car, the elegance, the 'sleeper' qualities of the 3.2L I-6 (217 hp in 1993 was insane). sometimes youre driving a sports car, other times a stretch limo. in 2007 you can pull up to a restaurant, a bar, a beach, a museum, a courthouse, a friends place, whatever and it just fits right in there. since its not a 'new' car its not ostentatious as it could be but still when people see that youre taking good care of it they say 'wow. nice car.'
and by the way, does the 300E not have the BEST cruise control system ever designed by Man?
I work for (not in) the US Military here in Germany and drive a 1988 260e. Great car, love the lines, and there is just something about the car that makes others move off the autobahn when they see that big shiny grill rolling down on them at over 200kmh. Plus the fact that I got brand new tires, new tune up, new bearings, nice wheels, new brakes, lowered, and BBS sideskirts for the low price of 1500 bucks.
At 38, I am new to the W124 - but the love affair has been going on for years. I am in the Real Estate biz, make a nice living and could drive whatever I want. I just prefer now to drive something I can work on, and something that will last for hundreds of thousands of miles as long as it has some TLC.
The admiration of MB and the w124 goes back to a girlfriend I had in College that drove a 380sl with 240k miles on it. Her dad had used it to commute weekly between Southern Colorado and San Antonio, Texas - and this had been his previous commuter. I drove the car all the time for 2 years and just couldn't believe how solid this car was. No issues / no hick-ups / just a quality ride. Her dads new ride at the time was a 89 300E, and I appreciate its timeless looks as much today as I did then. I drove it a few times back then and was smitten. The girlfriend went away, but the love affair with MB had just begun.
I 'inherited' a '80 240d from a roomate who told me it was dead and I could have it upon his graduation. New battery, and a little TLC and the rusted out sedan drove like a German tank - slow and solid. I drove it for years as a commuter and a backup to a long line of sports and muscle cars. Just always amazed at how reliable the 300k mile 240d was.
Fast forward several years and I bought a new 1999 E320, and it has been extremely reliable with Zero issues other than regular maint. It was quickly commandeered by the Mrs. - so I bought a new 2000 ML430 Sport. I loved driving it and I have driven nothing better in the snow - that is until the fuel pump began to fail at 7000 mile intervals. 8 fuel pumps later - 2 local dealers could not find out what was wrong or what was causing it - Then additional electrical Gremlins began to appear - windows opening on their own - power fold mirrors folding going down the road - Nav coming on by itself. Time to punt -
Bought a Volvo 850 Turbo Wagon from a neighbor and it continues to be the family pick-up and camping mobile - the Swedish Beast. I now wish to regulate it to weekend duties, so I have been looking for a while for a nice w124 to pick up and make into my daily driver.
This '87 W124 popped up recently with good records and history - it has some worts - but that's what a day off working in the garage is for.
W124 - Classic and Timeless MB
