Howdy, It's been a while since I dropped in, but I've got a question for everyone, especially American W124 owners. On the freeway, usually from a distance, and most of the time when it's dusk or night, have you ever been mistaken for a cop? It sounds silly, but a good number of times I've had traffic ahead of me part like the red sea and slow down. I even got a terrified look from a girl that I passed, like she honest to god thought I was a cop. (I was only doing 85 ) My thought is that the grille and headlight arrangment COULD look like a Crown Vic from a distance. I suppose the light blue color of my car lends itself to Seattle Police as well.
Has anyone else experienced this, or am I the only one? Perhaps it's a newfound power, Knock on wood, I haven't been pulled over yet
Ha! You know those police interceptors are pretty hot, if you could get one without all the cop stuff attached. They're pretty fast and can just have the crap kicked out of them, so I've always sorta liked the black ones. But my Sister used to be a cop, so I think that's why I'm partial
interesting thought... but since the w124 and the crown vic look nothing alike, people who know cars enough to try to recognize cop cars by the arrangement of their headlights also know enough not to confuse your mercedes with a crown vic... i'm guessing you just have aware drivers in seattle who actually yield the left lane over to faster-moving traffic (what a concept! i wish DC-area drivers would learn this basic code of etiquette)... as for the terrified girl, maybe she just got freaked out to see you barreling down on her in her rearview mirror. um, she wasn't an ex, was she?
Maybe! I suppose they are just more polite. Actually, they're really wierd over here. You mentioned DC area drivers? I've seen them and they honk ALL the time, at almost anything it seems, yet a guy over here once chased a driver who honked at him to his house and beat him up. Another guy was shot at, SHOT AT!, for passing someone and flashing his lights at him.

Us Seattle drivers are definitely nicer than drivers in most cities. But whenever a friend of mine comes up from L.A., we drive him nuts because we drive so slowly and clog up the fast lane. He's always tailgating people and flashing his lights at them and stuff. ha ha. I wasn't aware of the shooting incedent, so I'll make sure to let him know about that.
But our automobile mortality rate is also probably much lower than L.A.'s. I swear everytime I visit Socal, I see a fatality accident on the freeway.
I think only the fact that my 124 seems to like to get up to 90mph+ before I realize how fast I am going would make it similar to a police crown vic interceptor. These cars have the autobahn in their soul and driving 65mph is like driving any other car in a residential neighborhood.
