I just got my 87 300D back from the body shop and i went to go fill up and to my surprise every gas station only carries this new "Low Sulpher" diesel fuel. I was afraid to put an unknown fuel into my car but i was forced to because i couldnt find any regular no. 2 diesel. I am just wondering if anyone knows anything about this fuel.
The 2 things i noticed since using it is that my car has lost some power but shifts ALOT smoother, and losing power sucks because there isnt much there to begin with. The second thing i noticed is a remarkable boost in MPG, i couldnt believe how the needle didnt move after several long trips.
I first and foremost want to know if this fuel will cause any damage to an old diesel engine like mine because there was a confusing warning sticker on the pump about such a thing happening. Any other info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

"Low Sulphur" diesel is what you've been using all along.
500ppm
VERY soon, you'll see "Ultra Low Sulphur" diesel which will be even better.
15 ppm
First part of the phase-in is the labels on pumps.
It's VERY likely by September only ULSD will be available, as probably few stations will install more tanks and probably even fewer refiners will continue to make the old dirty stuff (since it will be illegal).

The sulphur component adds to emissions and engine wear. Europe has ULSD , making diesels more excepted . This in the short term seems one of the best fuels.
