W124 (CE300) Blower Motor & Cabin Filter Repair

I want to clean my blower (right now is blowing too soft) But I don’t know where’s located… Do I need to remove the wiper in order to get the blower? How many filters does the A/C have? Any suggestions or tips to do this job…?
thx

In the same boat

I am in the same boat , my blower just died . I have pulled the filter ,kinda center of the windshield screen plate that heads toward the engine. A few Phillips screws and the cover screen is off . You pull it out to one side, its a plain looking flat auto air-filter ,mine was two section .

Getting the blower out I have to look at my manual, never did it.

I used this link when I replaced my motor in January. The link does not appear to be working at the moment though.

I did find some other pictures may help you though (below). Basically the car is built around the blower motor. It's not hard to get to, just give yourself an hour or two. The nice part is you only need a phillips head screw driver, an allen wrench, and a 10mm socket wrench.
Here's the abridged version of how to do it:
1. Remove wiper arm
2. Remove plastic drip trays beneath wind shield
3. Remove wiper motor assembly
4. Remove pollen filters on top of fan shroud
5. Motor is behind fan shroud and is held down with a metal strap

Good luck. I have a printout of the complete steps somewhere in the garage, if you need more details.

BUt blowing soft seems also other reason. Mine is soft with A/C on after 30 mins and the re-circulating button is off. So far I read 2 underlying culprit:

1) Evaporator frozen after 30 mins and block the air out as the eva. temp. sensor is faulty
2) vaccum pod that control the air gateway is blocked.

Since my A/C works if the re-circulating button is on, I cannot afford time to fix this till the trick cannot not bypass the problem.

I found a new blower motor cheapest at importec.com , without the "squirrel cage fans " with them its double in price. I wonder what the failure rate is on the Blower regulator VS the motor .

I just removed my blower /fan assembly , On the 94 E320 . A lot more plastic tray /duct /shroud needed to be removed to get the wiper motor hardware out . It comes out with the bottom windshield rubber gasket and wiper motor together. If you aren't in a hurry you can drive the car with 80% of that removed . The wiper assem. can be installed in a few minutes if needed . Pretty straight forward if not for the many pieces of brittle plastic ducting. I did need the medium sized Torx type screwdriver ,with the 10 mm socket and phillips.

Its seems my blower motor is fine and can be run on the battery charger / bench. I guess the regulator / switch unit is bad. I may try to install a variable speed control ,instead of the high / low switch I have now.

The fan ( squirrel cage ) looks like its glued to the shaft ,as no screws seem to be showing ,removal could break the fan .
