I have the VIN number and am going to MBZ dealer tomorrow to have them check the last time it was serviced at a dealer. I want to get it checked by a mechanic too, but the owner is rarely home. I do know the 400E has twin caps and rotors, but they appear to be quite accesible. Are they hard to DIY? What about spark plugs? I have done these things on my 300E, not too difficult.

Hey Hoops! Piece of cake buddy! Just take your time and make sure you put all the wires back in the same holes![:D][:D] The Plugs were a easy job to! Would have been eaiser for me had I known that the hood will stand straight up![:D][:D] You need any pointers on it let me know![;)][;)][;)] Also shop the net for the caps and rotors! Cheaper than the dealer or local parts houses!

The CEL could be a number of things - only a couple might be serious. Assuming it checks out as minor (my initial guess is caps, rotors, & plugs) and you buy it, you're going to LOVE that car.
With 155K on the clock mine still drives like an essentially brand new car. It is fast, smooth, quiet, and gets good fuel mileage.
Stay on top of the cooling system! That, the wiring harness, and the A/C are the Achilles heels of these cars. The good news is that the M119 harnesses cost less than the M104.
