1993 400E

I am a longtime W124 owner. I have put over 400,000 miles total on 2 300E's. I have never had any engine problems with either one. I am looking at a 1993 400E with only 94k miles. Is 1993 the year MBZ started having the dreaded wire harness problems, or was it 1994? If the problem started in 1993, how do you know if it is ok? Are there any other issues to consider on the 400E?

If the car has been treated well and you get some records and little history, jump on the bugger!![:)][:)]You will love it! But then again I am kinda partial to BigBlue!![;)][;)][;)][;)] Oh forgot! and that the price is right!![:D][:D]Pretty sure there are some E400 and E420 folks that will chime in here to!Lets not be bashfull now! Tell the man about that Beast that purrs under the hood![:)][:)][:)]Plus you don't have to go thru all the work that fellow poster S.M. Autoworks is going thru to put the Beast in his ride!!

RE: 1993 400E

The wiring harness problem goes back to the very beginning of stuffing a hot V8 into the tight W124 engine bay. So it's either been replaced already by a previous owner, or it's gonna' need one RSN.

It should be pretty easy to tell -- just look at the wires & connectors. If they look fine, you're probably OK. If they're cracked, split and disintegrating, probably not.

As for 'other issues,' see my & other comments over at at MBWorld:

Good luck! It's one hell of a ride.

I have a 1993 400E and it kicks ass. There's something about this body-engine combination that's magic.

I would agree, not much more that you can say about the m119 in the w124 than kick ass and magical... well put. All of these new 400E owners making me miss mine [V][:p]
