Ok... I've got a 91' 300E (Automatic) which has been running very well. It's got a coolant leak I need to get fixed but it hasn't been too bad so I just put coolant in it from time to time.
The other morning I go out to take my son to preschool and the car won't start. We take my wife's car instead and the car sits for a couple of days. I get it to try something and it starts just fine.
A couple of week go by and last Friday it did the exact same thing. It was like it wouldn't even try to kick on. My thoughts is that it would be the ignition or the battery. I took the battery out and had it tested, all was good. When I put it back in after making sure it was charged up, it still wouldn't even try to start.
Just guessing that it might be something else I moved the car our of park and into neutral and it started up like normal. I was able to drive it this morning by doing that again but when I got in a the local convienence store it didn't want to start that way either. I moved the shift around a couple of times and it finally started right up. (Note this is an automatic so I have to turn on the key then move it to neutral)
Question: Is there a sensor or something that keeps the car from starting when it's not in park? Could that have gone out? Could it just be a fuse somewhere? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
