My car is a 88 300E.
I noticed that as of a few days ago, my 'brake pads wear' indicator lamp flashes intermittently while backing up. It really looks like an electrical/ground problem, since it's not a constant blinking but more of a loose cable kind of thing. The light goes off entirely while driving forward, and the brake pads look fine.
Anybody else had this problem, and can give me a clue where to look at?
Thanks.
Ok, found the problem. It was caused by a previous repair (that I didn't do). Seems someone replaced the front brake pads without sensors, but left the sensor wire just dangling there. This also explains why the (0) light came on in the car wash too. The wires were bare and freely conducting electrons. The pads are in good shape, but on my next order with Autohauz I'll get the correct pads and some new wires.

take out the sensors and check if they are starting to wear out, when tey start to wear they will do that, first the light starts to blink, only after a while the light constantly lights when breaking!
The issue of the lights coming on when backing up is usually the result of the sensor tip getting bent, so it looks like it's in but the tip actually is bent aside and touching the rotor.
You should ALWAYS replace the wear indicators (wires) every time you replace the brake pads. The last time I bought them (2 for each front wheel) I paid $1.95 each at the dealer!!
So for @ $8.00 it saves you alot of hassle... so the next time the light comes on you know it is your pads and not some half assed repair job gone haywire.
