Is there any differences between the engine in 500E vs E500? Me and some more have discussed this and they say that the 500E is of better quality of engine parts.
And is it just the fuel-enrichment at full throttle that makes the 6hp/10nm difference?
And if the 500E is of better quality, does it matter?
The fuel enrichment at WOT in the '92 cars only is the only difference I know of. The E500 is nicer looking I think and has some nice updates on interior and exterior but I don't think you'll notice the 7hp difference. You can buy a '92 computer and plug it right into a '93 or '94 500 and it will function properly.

The Interieur of E500 have waved Leather applications át the Doors.
Also different Steering Wheel and 2 electric Mirrors and other small changes.
You will notice, no different to an E500 and a 500E due to performance questions.
But, E500, from `92 and newer, have a longer transmission than the first build 500E`s, there you can change the Chip and race about 170 MPH !
Those 6-7 HP difference in the motor are cause the 500 E have a mechanical injection system and the E500 have electronic fuel injection. I supose that They have lost this 6 Hp increasing the economy of the motor....

Actually, the '92-'94 models were the only ones to make it to the U.S. and were epuipped with the newer fuel injection. You may be thinking of the CIS-E system with fuel distributor on your 1990 500SL, which the early '90-'91 500E's may have. The 7hp is from the fuel enrichment feature which was removed for emissions and OBD compliance issues for the '93 and '94 models. Also, as to the "quality of the motor" issue, you may be thinking of an open deck vs. closed deck motor. The '92 and earlier have a closed deck, later models have the open deck. I don't think that was too much a quality issue as much as ease of modifying. A tuner like RennTech or Brabus would prefer the closed deck for boring and head modifications because its easier. I don't know the details but you may want to do a search on www.500ecstasy.com for 'open deck' and 'closed deck.' Also much more info there about the 500E500.
