M103: White smoke from engine breather hose

Today I unplugged the rubber hose from the air filter box while the engine was idling. Noticed a lot white smoke coming out from that breather hose. My friend told me my piston rings are bad and thus causing "blow-by". How am I able to determine this? Thanks for all advise. Happy Holidays!

how much is a lot? if it is really noticeable then yes, you may have a bad ring/blow by issue. I'd start by doing a compression test, then take it to someone that can do a leak down test.

Perform a compression test right off the bat.
You may want to consider switching to a thicker viscosity engine oil. Too thin an oil on a high mileage motor will cause the white vapor you described. Use MOBIL 1 15W 50 most MBZ techs. swear by this stuff.
