Brabus 3.6 1989 coupe

I'm looking to purchase an 89 model 300CE 3.6 Brabus, factory converted car. The car is mint with just under 100k on the clock and is a RHD UK model. The owner states that the car is 285hp, 0-60mph in 6.6 and 160mph top speed. Are these figures correct?
Also with 95k on the clock should i worry about any major expense on the engine or manual gearbox? Or should i consider purchasing one with less mileage? The car has full Brabus service history.

RE: Brabus 3.6 1989 coupe

The performance figures sound about right for 285bhp. My E36 has slightly less power than that and is just under those figures.

My car has cost a small fortune. It is not only the engine that is likely to be different . Brakes, suspension , exhaust , ecu will all be uprated and prices tend to double for everything.
E36 brake components seem to come from the E500 and S600 which doesn't make them very cheap.

Why don't you call a Brabus specialist and ask what some typical parts would cost .

If the service history is good and there are receipts for everything then it could be a good buy.

RE: Brabus 3.6 1989 coupe

These are nice cars...I had a look at the same conversion on a TE earlier this year.

That particular car had 160,000 miles and still went like stink.

Just make sure the car has a complete service history and that it comes with technical data to enable it to be serviced correctly, ie engine timing, turbo info etc.

Also find out where it has been serviced and give the garage a ring and ask them whether the car has been difficult to keep in tune and generally whether its been a nightmare/OK to look after.

Also check that you can get consumables that are specific to this car, ie do Brabus still supply head gaskets and other gaskets that may be specific to this car etc.

In terms of the manual transmission, also ask Brabus if the clutch is different design/material to the MB clutch.

By the way is the coupe your're looking at a dark grey one?

RE: Brabus 3.6 1989 coupe

if you are looking for an exclusive car than you have to be prepared to pay the price.Once I had the opurtinity of buing an 3.6 Brabus engine+gearbox and electrical sistem for 1000 $, but I haven`t.That was stupid very stupid.so if you don`t take it you maybe regret that later.

It is better to ask first then do it.

If I was a bit closer I'd come and look at it with you. The performance figures sound about right.
9 grand is a lot of money for a 15 year old car but if it really is mint.....
Like mjtray said, Brabus specific parts might be hard to come by. Although you could take it to Brabus in Germany for servicing http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/showt...ghlight=Brabus

What's the chance of you ever finding another one regardless of mileage?

Edit, just seen your fleet of Mercs. I don't think you need much help looking at it.[;)] Go for it and add it to the collection!

RE: Brabus 3.6 1989 coupe

Here are the photos.
I haven't purchased the car yet. Apparently the cylinder head gasket alone costs over £400 + vat for the part alone! Its put me off slightly but i'm interested as long as he negotiates the price. It hasn't been serviced for the last 2 years either and is due for a service now. So still thinking....
