hello all, im new to this forum and MB in general. i was wondering if anyone can help me out. im very interested in purchasing a 1989 300 CE that has about 75,000 miles on it. now i am a college student and i dont make too much money. but what are some troubles i might encounter through the years of this car. i really like the style of it, ive heard that these cars are a handle full and cost of parts are a pretty penny. can i get some more opinions on this. lets just say that the car im getting will be in a fair condition. thanks who_am_i (newbie)

Hello,

Perhaps if you can elaborate more on what you mean with "fair condition"...? Any history of accidents, engine and drivetrain condition... etc. I suggest you obtain all that informaiton with a thorough checkup by a professional technician before you embark on the purchase.

When you say "fair condition" what are you comparing to?

Where do you live?
Is this car a private sale?
Is it a 1 owner car?
Does it have the service records?
Has it ever been in an accident?
Have you run a Carfax?
Is there any signs of rust?
Can you post a pic?

Buying a poor example will break you...financially. Be very careful. Give us some more info on the car and I will see what I can do to further assist you. The 300ce is a beautiful car and relatively easy to live with expense wise if it is a clean and well maintained example. A fixer-upper is not what you want especially being a student.
