I need to add coolant to my car today as a short term fix before I can flush the system and change the fluid. I don't have an MB dealer nearby to get the MB coolant. Somebody suggested the zerexg05 but all I can find is the Prestone Extended Life 5/150. It says it's fine for aluminum. Any thoughts on this? Would it be okay or should I wait and find the zerex?
in my opinion using the alternative u mentioned is fine. i have used the mb coolant and it is a little pricey and dosnt seem to offer anything the other brands dont.
ive forgotten the reason why you want the mercedes stuff or zerex, but it was enough for me to go looking for it.
i think i finally found it at kmart though i could be wrong. i did have to try about 3 or 4 places before o found it.
my car actually goes on just water as i dont have the money to do the head rebuild yet. every few days i need to top up the water in the expansion tank, and about once a month add some oil. you can get by without using antifreeze for a while. i would certainly do that while i searched for zerez.

This looked like an interesting thread but didn't get a real answer. The reason M-B recommends their own coolant is because M-B coolant is supposed to be pH neutral whereas many other brands are pH negative. The neutral pH factor won't attack the composite (plastic) components of your radiator.
