This Benz has been a pain in my life to long! Only another 300 e owner understands what im going through. When i start this "pain" it idles ruff , on the hwy. she runs out good, but only for 20 or 30 miles . Thats when she really starts her shit. I pull the plugs out, and i mean to tell you that these plugs are the blackest fouled out plugs ive ever laid eyes on! This is what all ive changed out so far. 1)new plups and wires 2)new cap and rotor 3)Check for vac. leak 4)Cleaned T.B. 5)Clean the ICV 6)Ive even tried fuel treatment and running the hell out of it None of this helped it out. What am i doing wrong? I all so own two other benz a 420 sel that the wife is back in , and a s 55 that i drive. Beleive it or not but i do all the mech. work on these two, but when comes down to the bad ass E i have no luck at all. PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Check that your exhaust has not colapsed inside the muffler. That just happened to me: Symptom sudden lack of power at 65mph, poor idle, black smoke at idle.
Best o'luck
Yes all 6 plug were black
Do u think it could a o2 sensor could be bad?
And i cleaned the OVP.
The fuel distributor, where is it and what does it look like?
I know where the mass air flow uint is at. Does it have a sensor? Or are we talking about the same thing but calling it by a different name?
I really thank u for all the info! Now ive got a old 300cd im working on. Its not to bad to be a 83. But we will see.
If u are ever in the New Orleans way look me up and the Wife and i will show u the city...........
The fuel distributor is the metal spider looking thing under the air filter housing. It would be to the left of the throttle body I guess if you were facing the front your vehicle looking at the engine. The air flow sensor is the thing in between. It would be just to the right of the fuel distributor.
Also you mentioned that you had a muffler recently installed... You may want to check that it has not developed any cracks or that any seals have broken. More than once have I had a new OEM muffler crack under the pressure right after being installed. If there are leaks in the exhaust system and there is too little back pressure, the car will run very rough and sluggish.
The OVP is a very common culprit to many problems on the earlier W124s. Bad idle, bad running, electrical glitches, etc...
It is located past the battery behind a plastic panel that can be removed. It is a silver coloured rectangular object that has a red North American style fuse in it.
