heater core

I just had my radiator flushed on my 1993 300E and wouldn't you know it the heater core started leaking onto the passenger side front floor...Of course the mechanic swears it was nothing he did??? I'll never find out if it was him or not....Anyway is there a way to bypass the core so as it will not leak until I can have it repaired and how much jewelry do I have to pawn to fix the problem????? I'm sure it's expensive....[:(]

RE: heater core

$$$$$$$$$$$$ sounds like the mechanic use the water hose from the shop to clean out the core, or worse the shop air!.. this would be ok if the heater valve (monovalve) was open 'cause no real pressure will build up. the valve was probably closed causing your innocent heater core to try and hold onto 60 to ??? psi. just can't happen. as for by-passing... simple.. the hot out of the engine is located in the back of the head. (by the oil filter) remove this hose from the head. (catch the spill or you will have guy's in white suits running around) the nipple on the head must connect to the circulator pump under the expansion tank. it's mounted to the frame rail. buy some hose and go for it. be sure to pull the plug on the monovalve so it won't function.(up by the battery) leave the circulator pump hooked up.. so it's head to the inlet of circulator and circulator to the steel pipe that goes to the water pump.. ps.. if and when u do the core, you MUST MUST change the evaporator. i can't stress that one enough......hope this helps..kevin
