Curious 300E door light problem

Hi All -

My friend has an '89 300E with a curious problem - when he opens the drivers side door, the light on the lower door does not turn on and the seat does not adjust anymore, BUT when he then opens the passenger side door, both lower door lights come on and the driver's side seat will then adjust.

In reading through the parts catalog, he thinks it might possibly be a bad diode.

Does anyone have any ideas to share or any idea on where to find such a diode???

Thanks a lot,
Howard Henderson

RE: Curious 300E door light problem

Howard,

My opinion is that the door switch is not working.
Open drivers door an locate the switch.
Compress the plastic sides and it will pull out.
Notice wires on each side of switch?
If not, wire may have pulled off and needs to be found and put back on switch.
Next
Pull wires off switch and test it with a ohm meter, or swap it with the one on passenger side to see if follows the switch.

RE: Curious 300E door light problem

check the fuses... the power seats in an 89 300E use more than 1 fuse. i had a fuse blow out and i thought it was gonna cost a fortune cause parts of the power seats would work and some parts wouldnt... i spent about 8 bucks and replaced all of my fuses. fixed my problem.

RE: Curious 300E door light problem

problem is probably in the timer/key buzzer relay located behind the cluster. its only for the drivers side switch. pull cluster, there are 2 relays there, its the relay to the right of column, left of other relay. the relay should click w/operation of drivers pin switch. pop relay and open and inspect for cold solder joints or burnt circuit.
