230CE Pillarless Coupe.

Hey, Guys,

I'm looking to buy the above car - I'm off to look at it on Saturday. What are they like? The photo I saw looked cool, but as I know little or nothing about Benz's, I need some advice?

The car has done 128,000 miles with full service history - is this OK, or is it going to cause me trouble? What should I look out for when making my purchase?

Also, I've seen a few "engine swap" threads on here - how easy is this to do from a parts perspective? Is it easy for me to up the performance in this way?

Finally, what about body-styling? Where can I get kits etc to bling up my Benz?

Any info much appreciated!

Col.

RE: 230CE Pillarless Coupe.

Don't even consider an engine swap (other than replacing a non-repairable engine with something the same). If performance is important to you (which it sounds like it might be), I would not recommend a 230CE. The 2.3 litre M102 four cylinder is really not up to the task in the W124. You should be looking at a 300CE (3.0 12-valve six cylinder M103), 300CE-24 (3.0 24-valve 6 cyl M104) or 320CE / E320 coupe (3.2 24v 6 cyl M104). The M104 offer the best performance but the M103 is perhaps slightly less troublesome, very smooth and quiet, and offers a good compromise between performance and price.

PS Sorry for multiple posts. I was getting no response when clicking "submit" only to later find that numerous posts had occured. "Delete" does not seem to work.

Not a problem Greg, other posts cleaned up. -Tubs
