RE: 230CE Pillarless Coupe.
Don't even consider an engine swap (other than replacing a non-repairable engine with something the same). If performance is important to you (which it sounds like it might be), I would not recommend a 230CE. The 2.3 litre M102 four cylinder is really not up to the task in the W124. You should be looking at a 300CE (3.0 12-valve six cylinder M103), 300CE-24 (3.0 24-valve 6 cyl M104) or 320CE / E320 coupe (3.2 24v 6 cyl M104). The M104 offer the best performance but the M103 is perhaps slightly less troublesome, very smooth and quiet, and offers a good compromise between performance and price.
