Yes it was me, I've just back from negotiating the deal...the car is being delivered next week.

As I haven't got a clue how to attach photo's properly I have managed to attach a photo of the car to the original message that started this thread...see above.

I'm going to try and attach a couple more

RE: AMG Hammer for sale in the UK

Further info on the car........apparently this is THE car tested by Road & Track magazine at the Nardo track in Italy in 1986/87 and the managed to get it upto 186mph....I was told that the guy who tested it for R&T may well have been John Lamm....is this a familiar name to you R&T readers in the US?

My next job will be to track down all of the previous owners and find out some more history on the car.

Its only done 47,000 miles from new and has a full MB Service history. The other major job at some stage is to find somebody who can fix the engine.

In the meantime its looking likely that a 5.0 engine from an SEC will be dropped in and at a later stage the AMG engine will be put back.....thats likely to be a long long long way off.

Cheers

Keep in mind when dropping a 500 motor that you're probably not going to be able to match up those exhaust downpipes as they are made for the AMG headers. Just use factory 500 downpipes and save those because you won't find them anywhere else. Be sure to get those camshaft holes covered on the left side. Where did those cover plates go? Definitely a legit 5.0 4cam motor. Good luck with everything. As long as the heads are good you should be able to do something with it.

Eurocoupe......do you know whether there was any additional work carried out to the block by AMG? I was just wondering whether I could get another stock 5.0 MB block and use this to replace the damaged one.

Any thoughts?

The cam covers are in a box of bits that some with the engine.

Many thanks for your help.

RE: AMG Hammer for sale in the UK

The bottom end of a stock 5.0 block should be the same as the AMG 5.0. An AMG tuned 5.0 2valve motor makes 276hp vs the factory 240. This was accomplished by exhaust headers, hotter cams and intake manifold. The headers you already have and the intake and cams you have as well. One thing to check is if the exhaust headers are oval-shape where they bolt to the block, or circular-shape. I have heard that there can be both. Again, if the heads are said to be good, do not take them apart if you can avoid it, other than removing them from the block of course. Not worth pulling the valve covers off if you don't need to. Gaskets are near impossible to find and may need to be fabricated. Hang on to that air filter housing, its custom made as well to have 2 "fat" intakes instead of 1 fat or 1 fat and 1 skinny like the factory 560. 1 other thing, check out the oil filter housing to see if it is upside down (SL style) or vice versa. This has to do with the exhaust setup. Mine is SL style and has an "extension" almost like a shim, to make it stick out further away from the block. Just look over everything on the bottom-end of the 500 motor you aquire vs the AMG motor to see what changes you will need to make. Take a look at this link for different 5.0 AMG variations and their power figures. A parts spread is there as well. You'll be pushing 340 horses if all goes well for you!

EuroCoupe, your proving to be a big help...thanks!

I'm pretty sure the 'standard' block was 5.6 litres or you could buy a 6.0 litre version. At least, that's what I read...

The 5.0 may not match up well.

His block is stamped as the 5.0 block. They made the 5.0 4cam motors in 1984-85 and the 5.6 came out in '85.
