RE: Starting My Engine

The cold start valve is supposed to inject extra fuel into the intake for easier starting when the engine is cold. It injects more or less fuel depending how cold the engine is... it is not supposed to operate when the engine is warm/hot. If it is malfunctioning, it can cause problems starting both when hot and cold. Ie. it does not inject enough fuel when cold or injects too much when hot.

It is located underneath the air filter housing around halfway along the length of the engine, maybe between the third and fourth cylinder... It has a blue plug I think... Do not quote me on that though... cannot remember exactly.

Do not have a pic. Can post one next week, when I borrow a friends digital cam. Maybe someone else can post one here for you sooner Inblues...

RE: Starting My Engine

Thank you Cheeryvampire.
I have sometimes problem with cold start, but not all the time.
Is there a way to check this valve somehow to see if it is operating properly or should I just buy new one?

RE: Starting My Engine

When the engine is cold you can test the valve by...

-Pulling it out
-attaching only the fuel line
-turning on the ignition without starting the engine
-the valve then should not be ejecting any fuel
-reattaching the electrical line
-turning on the ignition without starting the engine
-see if the valve spits a steady amount of fuel out, may want to get a cloth or jar to eject the fuel into
-disconnect the electrical line, the fuel flow should stop completely

I think I have listed all the steps, Inblues. Try testing it before purchasing a new one, they are somewhat expensive. For anyone else out there, please feel free to add anything that I might have missed.

-CV

PS: Sako83, based on your listed location I do not think a cold start valve will do you any good. They are more for use when starting below freezing temperatures.
