My 1991 300 CE 24V Sportline is developing a noisy fuel pump. It's a steady whine and doesn't sound particularly pained.
I checked to make sure it wasn't fouling the body but the "silentblocks" seemed fine.
Any others have experience of similar or failure of fuel pumps?
The car's done a genuine 250K km (150K miles) and has had recent head gasket, cooling system overhaul, radiator, exhaust, fuel and air filters, plugs etc.
Basically, it goes fine but I don't relish the idea of breakdown.
I understand it's common for a fuel pump to get noisier just before it gives up. They are consumable items. The brushes are formulated with a bit of abrasive and wear out with use.
