Hi. I'm new and have just bought a 92 300 TE. Questions, so many questions:
1) What is the stock wheel offset?
2) What wheels are people buying as upgrades?
I like the look of the AMG Monoblock 17" and wonder if they fit the 300TE.
3) Anybody running the Monoblocks or the knockoffs?
4) My 300 TE looks to be in pretty nice shape. What is the story on the 300 Es and what are the things which are the normal problems one sees?
thanks for any time you might take to answer thes Qs.
Usual problems: if the thermostat cover (top front of the engine) is black ABS plastic, then replace it ASAP with the updated part (alloy). Oil leaks from the water-pump housing and timing chain cover are not unknown; any overheating can lead to head work. Mine needed all the fuses in the fusebox changing for new ones. Look carefully at the OVP relay (behind the battery) and search hear for 'OVP' to read other people's tales. Ditto the EGR valve and lambda sensor (in the exhaust, under the fromt footwells).

I'm looking to jazz up my 1993 300TE as well, and finally decided to get going after seeing a 1988 AMG 300TE in the Star Magazine (Spet/Oct 2003). You can also find photos of this beast at:

(Actionally I found that link with the same google search that lead me to benzworld)
In any case, I too will move to the monoblock (probably replicas), but I'm going to go with the 16" rims rather than the 17". I could be wrong, but unless you make some suspension adjustments; going from the stock 15" to 17" wheels might make for a much rougher ride. I would also add that I think the Falken 512 tire as a better match for the 300TE series of this vintage than the OEM Michelin MXV 4. They are as quient and handle much better, especially on snow. I will admit I haven't tried them on the 16" wheels yet.
