I'm not crazy about the black interior, but do give me a buzz if you ever decide to part with it. Mine is a '93 with 220,000-ish. If it ever really dies, I’ll be looking for another nonetheless. I've done the obligatory ignition wire replacement, a new transmission and blower switch for the AC. So I know about those $3,500.00 summers. But alas..., they ride so damned nice, and it's so gratifying when I spot someone in a 2004 E or S class rubber-neck through and intersection to get a second look at a classic - it's the subtle contrast and sass of the 17" Monoblocks that really started the neck craning.[8D]

the interior is grey mb-tex; i actually like that stuff. and even though the seats aren't leather, at least they're heated. had the wiring harness, O2 sensor, stoplight switch, exhaust, and many other things fixed/replaced in the past year, and the "check engine" light is still on... decided to screw it for now, since the car drives fine. besides, the engine has been checked so much recently, my mechanic might as well just move in under the hood.
i agree, the ride quality on these cars is amazing. i also love the turning radius and all the small, thoughtful details that make these wagons so handy, like the abundant cargo-area lighting, the auto-on feature of the wipers when you put the car in reverse, and the ease with which the seats can be folded down (except for having to take out the headrests, which is a pain). reminds you that mercedes isn't just a haughty luxury carmaker that slapped together a wagon, but a company with real expertise in utility (which makes sense, given its trucks, tractors, and the g-wagen that are all over europe).
has anyone ever swapped a V-8 into their wagon, by the way? any personal experiences with the result?
Yeah, I once had a link to your photos on my website, but it's been changed... I think it's amazing that you where able to keep the wife, the house and restore this car the way tou have. My wife would have killed me, plan and simple. If I'm not mistaken I first heard about this car in the Star mag of Septrember 2003.
Anyway, I'm trying to make my black 1993 300TE look as much like yours as possible. Fortunately, you can still special order the ground effects from Wald, even if you cannot get the V8.
After the kid's done with college, I hope to find one.
I'm heading off to LA tomorrow to get married. Then to Kuaui. Back in a month. Damn i'll miss the car. New euro plate courtesy of Dutch cousins. Now i need the headlamps.
