On my front passenger side door there is a key lock. However, when I insert and turn the key the door does not unlock. I removed the door panel and can see there are two horizontal rods in the door that attach to the verticle rod that attaches to the vacuum lock actuator. The top horizontal rod appears to be the key override system but on mine there is nothing attaching the end of that rod to the key lock mechanism. Does anyone have a diagram of that door lock system (mechanical not vacuum) so I can see what I am missing?
Sorry man , I've been busy working on 4 of my cars, & 2 motorcycles. Im going to my parts storage today, Ill take pics of the part i think you need. Post it latter tonight. You just have to wait . Patience.
Ok i been under my car for the past 8 hours off and on. And im in a rush getting ready to go to work but real quick heres the pix. I couldn't find the rod from the handle so i used a screwdriver to mimic the rod. But that white plastic think breaks real easzy and thats usually whats wrong. If its not broke ( the tab ) then the small clip ring is missing most of the times also. It holds it into the door lock switch ( the black think shown in your pic ) Aww dam i gotta resize the pix in order to post, gotta go to work. ill post today i promise
If that tab breaks it wont work. Orrrrrr sometimes the return spring on the key lock is broke and that will mess up things too. But the tab is the main problem
I had a similar problem years ago. The spring mechanism broke, which prevented me from unlocking the passenger door from the outside (w/ key).
Top left part of the image shows where the spring is located. It combines the rods for the lock/unlock mechanism, and the vacuum pod.
Good one (new) on the left, broken one on the right.
