Hey guys,
Really excited! I have looked for a great quality W123 for years. I've had about a dozen Merc's and very loyal to the brand. Long story short, I was able to purchase a 1982 240D this week from the original family. The owner was a physician in Jackson, Tennessee who received this as a gift from the hospital in 1982, but preferred his truck and his wife didn't like it being diesel, so it was rarely used. And....EVEN has the window stickers, the deliver sticker, all manuals, the plate with his name and delivery information on it, etc. All service recs as well.
It is just about to roll 50,000 miles. If the mileage were higher, I would probably keep it. However, I don't keep cars for a long time and have the feeling someone who's looking for a low mileage W123 would love to find one this low and keep it a long time. Plus, I think this is the prime marketing time for it, given the mileage.
The car had just been serviced a few weeks ago, but several things couldn't have been caught til it was actually routinely driven. I discovered the master brake cylinder was ready, so had the Merc guy here replace last week. Also having new Michelin's installed today, as the others were new but dryrotting. Also replacing the belts, alternator as it wasn't holding a charge and told him to go ahead and put in a fresh battery.
It's the light ivory/ pale yellow and rich brown palomino interior. With this being one of the most pristine and low mileage 240's one could find, what would you estimate the price I should ask, as well as the best place to list it? Ebay? Someone is going to be looking for exactly this!
And.....then there's a side of me that says, ah!, just drive it a while! But I have the case of too many cars and a wife that will tell me to drop something
