1984 300TD, CCU has temp wheel on left, horizontal row of switches, and vertical fan speed selector switches on right
I got sidetracked trying to figure out my a/c problem. The a/c only blows cold when temp wheel is to "min", otherwise all fan speed functions and selectors seem to work correctly. The air is ice cold and the compressor comes on without issue. The issue is that the temp doesn't correspond to any input from the temperature wheel other than to go full cold when set to "min".
*I'm sure parts names are not correct*
So I checked the foam tube behind the glove box and (no surprise) it wasn't there. The a/c techs (non-Mercedes a/c shop) who the PO had work on the car, not only removed the hose, they also reassembled the temp sensor and connector incorrectly, pushing the wired connector up through the white tube-attachment piece, allowing the tube attachment piece to fall to the bottom of the wiring and out of sight. In the course of getting the tube-attachment piece back off of the wiring connector, I broke one of the retaining clips off of the connector. Now with everything correctly reassembled behind the dash, I'm not sure of the quality of the connection between the sensor and the connector.
The climate control unit behavior has not improved, so I'll also check the monovalve today. I think I still need to address the connection with the temp sensor. I don't want to take the dash off to do it, but I don't know where the wiring leads to and if I can just reroute the wiring.
Can I access the temp sensor and the associated wiring connector without removing the dash?
Can I reroute the wiring connector under the center vents and reconnect the temp sensor and set it under the glove box until I eventually replace the dash?
Does anyone have a schematic or picture of what all the wires, tubes, vents, and connections (switches, HVAC, etc.) look like behind the center of the dash?
