So I have a 1979 300td, and recently it's been dying left and right, the battery is new, and so is the alternator, but something that may be the cause is the fact that might head lights turn on automatically when the car starts, and I'm pretty sure they waste a ton of power when on 24/7. Does anyone know how to stop the head lights from turing on automatically with the car???
Lets clarify this - the lights come on when you start the car? Or, are they on all the time? Your first post seems to say both.
Either way...if the lights are coming on even when the headlight switch is set to OFF then my first thought would be that your switch is broken and stuck on.
Measure the amps drawn from the battery when the engine is switched off.
