Tips on saving a veggie oil motor?

Just got my hands on an 85 300d 250k miles. PO ran it on SVO for about 15k. I want to purge all the veggie oil out and run it on diesel. So far i plan on doing basic maintenance.
-clean fuel tank and lines, fuel filters, diesel purge.
-valve adjustment
-change all fluids etc.

The motor runs fine, slight high pitch knocking between 2k-3k rpm, maybe injectors? Haven't done the valve adjustment yet.

Anyone have any other tips on cleaning up the motor from the veggie oil usage? I haven't done a compression test yet, I have heard that veggie oil is bad on rings overtime.

Thanks

Was the injector opening pressure altered for veggie oil? If yes, they should be adjusted back to std. parameters. Same for pump timing, most SVO-users run with altered pump timing/adjustment for SVO. They'r not recommended for use with dino (danger of runing too hot which may cause damage). Check this or get it checked or ask the PO

The PO did not alter anything, only mod was crappy heaters on the injector lines.

Seeing as you haven't had the car for long I'd be doing the minimal servicing like you suggest in post #1 and then driving it for a bit on diesel. See how you get on with it first - with any new to you car you can over do it in the beginning if you are not careful. You might, for example, find something really wrong with it and wish that you'd not spent all that money doing something else when you first bought it!

Very good point army. Yes I plan on doing the basic maintenance and then see how it runs...
I'm not sure yet if the veggie oil has damaged anything, for now I just want to get it all out of the system and run diesel.

I don't know much about non diesel alternatives and the problems associated with 'em but I seem to remember people talking about "water injection" and "varnish" => use those key words and search for them on the peachparts alternative fuels subsection of the diesel discussion.

But promise not to get yourself all worried about what could have happened or what could now be happening - it is a mine field of information and disinformation.

Any ideas on getting that hard layer of dried up veggie oil off? Looks like it turned into a layer of plastic. I was going to try pressure washing it later this week, the stuff is pretty hard, i scraped some off with a flat head and that alone took some effort.

Good luck on that crap. Heat and something caustic. Getting it hot will make it waxy and somewhat more removable than the glue-like nature it currently has. Once it polymerizes, it's on for the long haul. I put some on a pane of glass, let it dry, and its been outside for over 4 years and not even the South Carolina sun can melt it away. It will get gummy and waxy in the heat, but it clings like crazy.

I am partial to WVO and I burn grease, but I have almost zero tolerance for those who abuse the process.

fyi junk the car....

check the compression before you do anything. I saved a wvo Benz, I had to replace every fuel component just to get it to start. The engine never turned fast enough for my liking but it always started...figured that the engine would clear up after awhile...never did...

took a 900 mile trip in it, ran like a charm with a little loss of power. Its around 34 degrees and the engine just won't crank fast enough to start the car....so its just sitting. The veggie oil gunked up the engine pretty bad.

I am hoping to change the stated as its OEM and replace the oil with synthetic in order to get her to crank faster. If not its a yard decoration....

also give up on removing the cooked on residue....I think fire might melt it off but you'll probably destory other things.

here's the link for the one I bought....shows you what you are getting into
