Post Cigarette Lighter 1984 Mercedes 300CD

I went to plug in my radar detector on my 1984 Mercedes 300CD, which I just got, but the cigarette lighter input is not working. Is this a simple repair?

Thank you for your help...

It's probably a blown fuse. The fuse box cover is a pain to get off, just work at it. There is probably a diagram inside the cover that shows which fuse is the cigarette lighter. It's also annoying that Mercedes cigarette lighters are not the "standard" size that you are expecting, so your plug may flop around in it. Actually before you check the fuse, you should try holding the plug in the cigarette lighter and moving it ever so slightly to see if your detector lights up. Note that the cigarette lighter in your car is only on when the car is turned on.

The ashtray has to be fully open so the contact points trigger the cigarette lighter to activate.

Check contact points on ashtray and center console.
