alternator pulley

I pulled the alternator today and metal bits fell out of it, so I know it's toast. Everything went well, but I bent the lip of the double pulley by dropping the alternator... thankfully it didn't hit my toe...

Should I try fix the pulley by bending it back or buy a new one? I don't want to have a pulley that's going to shred belts all the time because it's not smooth and true. If I need a new one, where can I get one?

If I were you I would try the local yunk jard. They probably wont want to sell just the pulley but sometimes we do get lucky. You may want to buy a remaned unit but it will probably come without a pulley as they are somewhat generic and you will need a good core to return. I have been back-charged for returning an unusable core. If tiny bits fell out of yours it MAY be unusable. Just my 2 cents.

The pulley is quite expensive new, I agree to get a used one. See if members are parting cars out.

When installing the "new" (brand new or used) pulley, make sure you also get the key IIRC to install this pulley to the alternator shaft. If old one is good, reuse.

I called a local MB dealer: $180 for the pulley. I hate that about MB. but I found a working alternator at the junkyard today, so I'm going to ride that until it gives out...

Wow, 4-5 years ago it was $100.

Yeah, had to replace the pulley on mine too. Alternator shaft was badly damaged, had to upgrade to 65A from original 55A even if original unit was fine except for the bad mechanical aspect.

I have a double pulley from the 120AMP alternator I am about to install. I don't need the double pulley, and Am using the single, if we are talking about the same part I could give it to you, brand new
